Dana Tyrell was a one man wrecking show last night for the Miami Hurricanes. The Binghamton Senators were not able to keep the kid away from the net or off the score sheet. Tyrell, who potted a hat trick, raised his goal tally to 18 on the year against a B-Sens team who threw everything, including the kitchen sink, at the Hurricanes net. However it was Tyrell, who on his own had 7 shots, that had the magic hands on a night where the B-Sens were attempting to get back on the winning track.
"You have to tip your cap to (Jeff) Deslauriers" said team captain Bruno Gervais. "Putting 32 pucks on net, and him only letting one by, that's impressive" he added.
And that is pretty much the story for the evening. Behind Deslauriers 31 saves, and Tyrells hat-trick, the Hurricanes handed the B-Sens their second loss in a row, dropping them to the eight seed in the Conference 1 standings.
"It's a tight race to get into the playoffs, with only nine points separating the sixth seed from the tenth seed" said coach Reirden. "Every game is crucial and we have to start playing one period at a time, winning one period at a time and continue to grow from there" the coach added when discussing his teams dismal performance post game.
17 games remain in the regular season and Binghamton has only one goal in mind.
When asked about it, Zach Hamill had an impact statement: "Playoffs. It's all about the playoffs, win, and keep winning and we'll be in with a hope to capture the greatest prize at our level. It's not impossible, but we have to prove we belong there first and foremost."
When asked about looking ahead, Hamill added: "It's not looking ahead. It's about our next game. It's about getting back on track. We play the ::expletive:: IceHogs next, a team we have not faced often and have not played at all this season, but let's face it, they suck! It's a MUST WIN".
As stated, the B-Sens now sit in the final playoff spot of Conference 1 of the AsHL. And with only five points separating them from the Hartford Wolfpack, who have five games in hand, winning is the key.
It looks as if Chad Johnson will be ready to get back between the pipes after being held out due to a minor tweak, and he is pumped about that.
"It sucked. It sucked sitting there, watching the other get out skated, out shot and out played and still beat us. I want back in the crease, I want to help get this team back on track, and I want it now".
Rockford comes to town next, and we hope the arena is rocking as we prepare for playoff battle with each and every game from here on out.
