Raleigh, NC – Don Hay let General Manager Ron Jones know a few weeks ago that he wanted to step away from the team for personal reasons. So the team had made a short list of candidates, but everyone knew the list really was one name long .. Willie Desjardins.
"I've watched Willie's teams play over the last 12 years," AGM Benning said. "His teams play fast and work extremely hard. They play an up-tempo hard-skating kind of game. His teams play with that relentless attitude that we want our players to play with."
"I trust Jim Benning explicitly, but I was still blown away by Willie when we met in person," said GM Ron Jones.
There are some rumblings that Willie Desjardins might be the heir apparent in Carolina if the team struggles.
