--Seattle, WA
The Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins kicked off the season on a high note, spoiling the home opener for the Thunderbirds.
Newcomers Matt Neito and Seth Jones showcased an unstoppable powerplay, scoring all 3 goals in the 3-1 win with the man advantage. Nieto opened the scoring with a wrist shot on the powerplay after Kyle Clifford was knocked off the puck. Just one minute later, Nieto would pick up his 2nd point as he assisted on Seth Jones' first career goal. Seattle scored a quick one in the 2nd period, but Nieto added his second goal early in the 3rd to secure the win.
The Baby Pens also have a completely new set of goaltenders. Christopher Nilstorp, picked up from Anaheim in the offseason for a 7th round pick, stopped 25 of 26 for the win. He'll got the nod in the next game as well, although Andrey Makarov will get between the pipes soon.
