The Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators completed a 5 player deal on Sunday but this deal is strictly to try to kickstart the stagnant offence for the Oilers farm club the Roadrunners. The Oilers dealt tough guy Kevin Westgarth along with prospects Kevin Cormier and Phillip Gugolla to Nashville for Brandon Yip and prospect Taylor Stefishen. The deal is pending league approval.
"We are looking to do anything to help our struggling farm club and we felt that Yip has more offensive prowess than Westgarth and were willing to make this deal to kickstart it. We didnt see either Gugolla or Cormier in our future plans so this deal worked for us on a lot of levels."
It is expoected that Yip will slot in on the bottom six, likely on the third line. Yip has struggled this season to find his game but the hope is that a change of scenery may do him good, and giving up Westgarth was fine since they have Patrick Holland waiting in the wings who can be a tough guy if needed.
