Toronto, ON - Confirmed reports show that the Toronto Marlies have dealt second year defenseman Corbin McPherson to the Edmonton Roadrunners for a 7th round pick in the 2015 NsHL Entry Draft pending league approval. McPherson has been a healthy scratch in all but one of the team's 11 games, and he only managed one shift before coach Glen Gulutzan stapled him to the bench. McPherson was a favourite of coach Jim Schoenfeld last season as he surprised all but himself with 68 games.
"Yeah, Schoeny appreciated what I do, which is keep it simple. I couldn't buy a break this year, so I'm hoping I'll get a chance to play in Edmonton," said McPherson. He did go on to say that he "enjoyed his time" in Toronto and was treated well by the club.
"Corbin really worked hard for us last year and it was apparent that he was not going to be in our plans this year. We weren't really looking to deal him, but when Edmonton came calling we determined that the best thing for Corbin was to go where he would get some ice time. We have some depth throughout the system on the blueline, so we didn't ask for a whole lot," said GM Jade Graber.
The Marlies have been very happy with the play of rookie Adam Almquist who had taken McPherson's spot.
"We're gonna miss Corby," said captain Brett Sterling, "but if I was in his position I would be okay with moving on. It's part of the business."
The Marlies have a day off to absorb the loss of a guy who was regarded as a hard worker and good teammate before travelling to Rochester to take on the Americans.
