Toronto, ON - There had been recent rumblings around the Toronto Marlies that the club had been investigating the possibility of bringing in a "new voice" to lead the club. While he was not under contract, the club was surprised to learn that Jim Schoenfeld had jumped ship to take the helm of the Louisville Thunder, who are the Anaheim Ducks' farm team.
Toronto's GM Jade Graber confirmed today that they had considered making a coaching change, but did not know that Schoenfeld had been talking to other teams. "We wish Jim well. He did a lot for our organization. He is a class act and did an outstanding job of developing young players."
When asked why it is that the club had considered finding a new coach, the GM said that while the Marlies' regular season record had been very good under Schoenfeld the club had never got out of the first round of the playoffs. "On that basis he should be a fantastic fit in Louisville," the GM quipped.
So the search for a new coach to lead the Marlies will begin again. It remains to be seen what direction the club will go. If they want an opposite of Schoenfeld they may want to chase down someone high profile like Adam Oates if he doesn't get offered an AsHL job, or someone progressive like Ralph Krueger.
"We had a short list of candidates we were considering and will now have to accelerate the process," said Graber. He said the Marlies would like to have their coach signed before the free agent frenzy wraps up.

"Jade must have still been blowed out (drunk) from the Stanley Cup celebrations," responded Anaheim Owner/President/GM Mark Kopsack. "To leave a talented coach out there like Jim (Schoenfeld) out there without a contract was quite a pleasant surprise to us. Please do not hate the playa, Jade. Hate the game," Kopsack added. "We wasted no time in signing him." As far as the one-and-done quips, Kopsack said. "We have been the butt end of these kind of jokes for almost 10 years now. "It is nothing new, in fact, quite played outl. This year we have a renewed vigor for winning, a dedication to slapping-a-fool and plan on torturing the Toronto Marlies every time we play them." ******************************************************************* Sorry, Jade. At this point in getting the house in order, I signed who I thought was going to be the best for Louisville because I truly believed he was available. Did not mean to step on anyone's toes, however, will not apologize for being proactive and aggressive. We have a first round to get out of, now.
