Chilliwack, BC - The Toronto Marlies rolled into Chilliwack initially hoping for a split, but after pulling off an overtime win in game two the team had changed their expectations. Unfortunately, the Bruins had something to say about that, so home they go with the series tied 1-1.
It had taken just 18 seconds in game one for Hugh Jessiman of the Marlies to end the game, but in game two the Bruins got things done in the second overtime. Jared Spurgeon scored his first goal of the post season on the powerplay at 1:24, just 21 seconds after David Dziurzynski had been called for holding.
"I wasn't impressed with the call, but the refs have to do their job, and we have to kill those off," said a tight lipped Jim Schoenfeld after the game.
When asked if Dziurzyinski would pay the price by sitting out game three Schoenfeld simply stated, "I'm not going to bench a guy who has worked his tail off over a borderli... uh... no."
It remains to be seen whether or not the Leafs do in fact go with the same 18 skaters in game three as Paul Szczechura left the first overtime period with what appeared to be an ankle injury, but of course the club would only confirm that it was a "lower body issue" and that he would be a game-time decision.
The Marlies flew out of Abbotsford International Airport on a charter immediately after the post game conference in hopes of arriving long before the Leaf supporters crowded into Pearson Airport.
