Chilliwack, BC - Don Hay's Chilliwack Bruins are currently first overall in the AsHL with 50 points.
They are getting tremendous offensive production from Kyle Turris (31gp, 11-33-44), Zach Hamill (31gp, 15-20-35), Konstantin Pushkarev (31gp, 14-17-31) and Nate Gerbe (25gp, 14-13-27).
In fact Gerbe's fine play has allowed the coach to put Pushkarev on the second line to help make that line more dangerous and give it a veteran precence.
The goalies are basically platooning after the early part of the season where Robin Lehner was getting the bulk of the playing time. It has allowed both Lehner and Leland Irving to stay fresh, but obviously by the playoffs the Bruins will likely have to go with a number one.
The player that might be getting overlooked by some around the league is Yannick Weber who is an offensive dynamo with 20 points (6-14) in 31 games. The rookie blueliner is leading the team with a (+) 17 and is on both special teams.
"We know Yannick will likely be in the NsHL either next year or the year after and we want to help him grow in to be as complete a defenceman as possible," said Coach Don Hay.
A few questions were answered when Dave Scatchard was moved to the Ottawa Senators instead of being assigned to the Bruins. It was feared that having too many forwards would possibly mess with chemistry.
