REGINA, Sask. -- The Regina Rebels' pursuit of a back-to-back AsHL championship remains in tact after a less than perfect opening round.
The Rebels defeated the Hershey Bears, Detroit's farm affiliate, in six games after falling behind two games to one. While some of the Rebels' players struggled, they got a lot out of their third line consisting of Kyle Wilson, Justin Keller and Chris Conner.
"That's the mark of a championship team, finding ways to win games when faced with adversity," head coach Joe Sacco said. "We're very pleased with the play of that line, but we certainly need more moving forward."
The trio combined for 28 points through six games against the Bears, with all three finishing atop the team scoring thus far.
Petr Kanko, whose role seemingly diminished, scored the series winning goal in Game 6. It was his second game-winner of the playoffs.
Meanwhile, goaltender Tyler Weiman appears to be regaining his form after struggling through the first couple games of the series.
"I know I wasn't at my best, but I know I will be better in the next round," he said. "My teammates are very supportive and we're getting better each game."
The Rebels await the winner of the Prince Edward Island Frostbite and Texas Stars series, which is heading to a Game 7 on Thursday. Regardless of the winner, Regina will have home ice in this series.

Should have known PEI and Texas was going 7 games. We split the season series 3-3-0. Even though I (PEI) was up 3-0 in the series I should have known it wasn't over.

Sources say there was some weird flu bug that may have contributed to the Frostbite letting its guard down.

Thats a pretty legit source. The team didn't know who to start without me so they drew straws. Never letting that happen again.
