The Phoenix Squad has decided to take up gold this summer since they didn't make the playoffs. But there is plenty of hockey for the Desert Folks to watch as the PEI are in a divisional match-up against the Texas Stars. Looking at the stats these teams were pretty even. Texas went 48-28-6, good for 102 points, while PEI went 46-27-9 which put them at 101 points. PEI struggled in their final 6 going 0-5-1. They didn't seem to find any consistency.
Texas, on the other hand, finished strong going 8-1 in their final 9 games. That is a huge way to start the playoffs.
The 2 squads split the season series at 3 games apiece. PEI outscored Texas in that series 19-13.
PEI will start the series with Justin Peters in net. Rumor has it that Neuvirth will start for Texas since he had the bulk of the workload this year.
This will be a close series, as most of the 4-5 matchups are. Both teams barely missed the division lead, which is held by Oakland. I can see both teams battling hard to move onto that second round. Only time will tell.
