Toronto, ON - The Toronto Marlies extended their winning streak to 11 games tonight against the Chilliwack Bruins. "We're getting outstanding contributions from all players at the moment," said an enthusiastic coach Jim Schoenfeld. "Salak and Bishop have been incredible in net all year, and we just seem to be getting timely goals. Tonight it was Bradley, other nights it Clarkie or Williams. We're rolling and we want to keep it that way."
The Marlies have benefitted from a desire to toughen up the parent Leafs' lineup. James Neal and Steve Downie, two players with good hands, were sent down while tough guys Eric Boulton and Andre Roy were sent to the big club. The change has not hurt the Marlies at all, and the Leafs are playing better with role players on the fourth line.
The other standouts for the Marlies have been defensemen Viacheslav Voynov and Brendan Bell, who each have 21 points. Bell leads the club with a plus 15 rating, while blueliner Cody Franson, and forwards Matt Murley and Konstantin Pushkarev are each plus 14. "Over the past 21 games we are now 18 wins and 3 losses, and you can give a lot of the credit to [those players], but I really can't complain about the efforts of any of our players right now," said coach Schoenfeld.
The Leafs take on the PEI Frostbite tomorrow. The Leafs hope to take their streak to an even dozen.
