-- Portland, OR
The Portland Pirates wrapped up their regular season just over four days ago and although they did finish first in their conference and two points behind the league-leading Manitobe Moose, they did finish the regular season on a decline. The Pirates went 3-5-2 in their last ten and lost their family game of the season, which will probably affect the players' confidence when they begin the AsHL playoffs tomorrow night.
"It's unfortunate that we did not play too well down the stretch; however, we were letting Maxime Daigneault play most of the games and by no means are we blaming the losses on him. However, he was tired some games and we still put him in because we want him to build up his durability and endurance if he wants to be a solid NsHL goalie one day," GM Cawker said.
When asked about how he thought his team faired up against Hartford, GM Cawker said "They have a solid goalie in Jason Labrarera who has played in all of their games and we expect to play a solid goalie in the opening round. They also have some depth and are solid on the blueline and I am confident that if we play our game we will be able to take it to them," he added.
When asked what his prediction was on the series, he said "What do you expect me to say? I have faith in my team and I'm sure Rich has faith in his. I think we have the power to take them 4-0, but anything can happen come playoff time," he concluded.
This is Pierre McGuire reporting on the Portland Pirates.
