The Portland Pirates are currently on a two game skid, where they outshot the other teams (San Antonio and Houston both games.) Maxime Ouellet who has not been his usual self the past two games, allowing 5 goals on 43 shots, dropping two straight. He is no longer the top goaltender in the AsHL, with Michael Leighton surpassing him by .01 GAA. Regardless, the Pirates are still top in the AsHL with 72 points in 54 games (31-15-8-2) record. They have allowed the least goals in the AsHL and are being lead offensively by their top line of Alexander Semin - Artem Churbarov - Roman Tvordon.
"We are still at the top of the AsHL, fortunately. Although it is only two games, two leads to three and three leads to four so it is important to break the slide on Monday when we host Las Vegas. Maxime Ouellet will break out of his streak, he is just too confident for him to allow two games to get to him," GM Cawker said. "Artem Churbarov is till second in league scoring with 46 points (18 goals, 28 assists) in 49 games. He was a great pickup from the Montreal Canadiens organization, and chances are he will crack the NsHL next year, if we have any space at centre which is a very deep position in our organization. Alexander Semin will also most likely crack the NsHL roster next year and we are confident that he will keep his spot next year," GM Cawker concluded.
This is Joe Mama reporting on the Portland Pirates.
