-- Portland, OR
The Portland Pirates are playing the best hockey in the AsHL right now and are ten points ahead of Binghampton who are currently second in the Eastern Conference. After Tomas Kopecky was sent to Calgary in the Jason Allison deal, GM Cawker wasted no time in filling up the open centre spot by acquing Artem Chubarov from the Montreal Canadiens who has since moved up the scoring chart and is now third in AsHL league scoring. Maxime Ouellet has also played phenomenal, posting a 12-6-3 record in 21 games with three shutouts, and a 1.74 GAA which is good enough for a .933 save percentage (third in the league.)
"We are just playing well, I can't explain it, they are just executing everything that we do in practice in games and it is paying off," said GM Cawker. "Maxime Ouellet and Maxime Daigneault have kept us in games and they are the main reason why we are first in the AsHL. I am confident that they will keep their good work up," he added.
"Alexander Semin has also been nothing short of spectacular since being sent down to the AsHL. He has 32 points in 38 games with 11 goals and 21 assists and he has really gelled with Artem. We will just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope our play carries right into the playoffs," he concluded.
