Hartford, CT- The Las Vegas Wranglers are on a roll. Wondering if they were going to make the playoffs, Calgary Flames management made some bold moves in early January by releasing eight players from their farm system. They then signed five FA's and activated three players from their prospect list. Also, coupled with some trades and some young talent coming in, the Wranglers, now the hottest team in the AsHL with seven wins in a row and one tie, are moving up the standings. Eight games ago, the Wranglers were tied for 12th in the Western Conference, they are now tied for 5th and are 5 points out of 1st in the West Division.
The local media chastised GM Drummond for making such bold moves, but are now singing a different tune, actually praising him. Young speedy winger Marc Cavosie has caught fire during this time, scoring 8 goals and 1 assist in the last six games. Also, with the trading of goalie Brent Krahn, it was thought that Las Vegas would have a hard time keeping the puck out of the net, not so, Dany Sabourin has done quite well taking over the goaltending duties and is even being considered for the AsHL all-star squad.
This is Jack Offerman reporting from Hartford.
