Manchester, NH- The Manchester Monarchs had a disappointing season going 35-42-5 75 pts. and missing the playoffs in 2004. Management says "That's going to change." The Monarchs have made several personnel changes including hiring the GM of the LA Kings Nathan Kopsack to oversee the operations for the Manchester Monarchs.
"I will be overseeing the entire Los Angeles Kings organization including the Manchester Monarchs and Reading Royals teams." said GM Nathan Kopsack. "We had looked at searching externally for the Monarch's GM position but at this time, the organization feels it will best suited under my command. We are going to teach a 'system' approach at all levels of the organization. Continuity, standardization and education will make our players better suited for the NsHL." said GM Kopsack.
The overhaul is seen as a welcomed approach by fans as the new season fast approaches. Ticket sales have been better than expected and optimism seems to be the term best used to describe Monarch's fans. "If he [Nathan Kopsack-GM Kings] can have the same success here in Manchester that he had in Los Angeles last season, we are very excited about the upcoming season." said a fan watching the Monarchs practice at their facility in Manchester.
Newcomers Adam Hauser (G), David Steckel (LW/C), Greg Hogeboom (RW), Corey Locke (C), Joe Rullier (D), and Petr Kanko (RW) are all expected to make an impact in Manchester. "We have quite a few good young players ready to take the next step in their careers. The infusion of this young talent will make us deeper and ultimately more competitive." said Kopsack.
Manchester will be without leading scorer RWer Mike Cammalleri as he will begin the season on the Los Angeles Kings roster and is expected to make the team. "Mike is a fine player that is ready to take the next step. He will be given every opportunity to make the Kings out of camp and we expect big things from him this season up there." continued Kopsack.
The Monarchs still need to sign Corey Locke and Petr Kanko to contracts but team officials have said they will be signed before the start of pre-season.
"Bottom line here is that we are very excited for the upcoming AsHL season. We feel that from Day 1, we will field a highly competitive, system oriented team that can compete for the AsHL championship. With players like Tomas Surovy, Marcel Goc, Petr Kanko, and Pavel Rosa in the line-up, it will make for an exciting season. Be sure not to miss it." concluded Kopsack.
