Canada out shot, out hit, out worked and out played the Slovaks taking an easy 8-2 win. Belfour saw his first action for the East, and stopped 14-of-16 shots. Now, with one game left in the round robin it looks like Roberto Luongo will get his chance tomorrow when the East faces a red-hot Russian line-up.
"Our team really worked well tonight. I told Spencer to trust me on Primeau, he did...it worked out well. If he never trusted me, who knows what the result would have been. He did though; that's all that matters," Viterbo said. "We also talked about scratching 2 players, but we decided not too, thank godness for that, they played really well too."
Primeau was dynamite on his line scoring Canada 2 goals and finished a +3.
Slovakia's Vishnovsky scored first at 7:33 of the first, but Canada took over the first with three goals by Murray (Redden, Thornton; 11:04), Primeau (Aucoin, Nolan; 12:31) and Heatly (Unassisted; 17:19) told the rest of the story for the first period.
The second opened with a bang as Sakic and Carter both scored. Handzus got one back for the Slovaks, but Primeau scored again and Lemieux netted another.
Aucoin scored the lone goal of the third as Team Canada East cruised to victory.
Joe Sakic had a moment with us and had this to say: "It was good game for us, tomorrow will be harder though, were not going down easy."
In other World Cup of Hockey news: Canada West shut-out the Swedes with a 3-0 Win, Czech Republic beat Finland 4-2 and Russia continued its dynamite play with a 6-2 win over the United States.

"I am absolutely thrilled with the performance of our players. We came out to play this game and that made the difference. The guys learned from coming out of the gates slow against USA, and tonights game proved that," said co-GM Cawker. "Keith Primeau, boy what can I say, the name speaks for itself. He was solid at both ends, and notched 2 goals, for a +3 rating in only 14 minutes of play. Dany Heatley also has a two game goal-streak going and hopefully he can make that three against the powerful Russian squad."
"Roberto Luongo will get the start tomorrow night and hopefully his international experience will pay off. We have seen what Eddie and Marty can do and now it's time to see what Roberto can do. Nothing is set for the quarterfinal matchup between the pipes as that decision will be made once the round-robin comes to a close," he concluded.
