While I'm still miffed about the draft lottery in '04, the Chicago Blackhawks won the draft lottery today and will have the first selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. This is good news to me, as I was hoping the Hawks would get a chance to draft Patrick Kane. Now they have that chance. Actually I would have been happy with whatever happened as there are a lot of talented forwards to choose from. Kane, Voracek, Turris, Van Riemsdyk, Cherepanov, Esposito, Couture, Gagner, Perron, Hamill, etc. Anyway, I realize no one here cares, but I needed to post this somewhere.

It still amazes me to this day that the Pens won the lottery and the right to draft Sid the Kid!
I'll never forget where I was when I heard the news. I immediately contacted Rich and got the "blockbuster" that Dave only wishes he could pull off, done. That deal may have been the biggest in NsHL history as it instantly propelled the Rangers into contender status and gave the Avs the best young player ever to take the ice in NsHL history!

Heh, that was some deal. I think it's worked about how we thought it would, yes?
I still hate the Caps for winning the draft lottery in '04. Not so much because they got Ovechkin, but because it cost the Hawks Malkin. Oh well, nothing can be done about it now.

As far as it goes with the Hawks, I am pretty sure they will find a way to screw this up as well. Sorry to burst your bubble Roger.

I would normally agree with you Dan, but I am quite happy with the Hawks recent draft history. Young talent isn't going to be a problem in Chicago for a while. The issues will be developing that talent, as has always been a weakness of the Hawks, at least the last 15 years or so.
But with kids like Toews, Skille, Bolland, Brouwer, Makarov, Bertram, Davis, Sindel, Blundel, Bickell, Hjalmarsson, Crawford, Fallon, Kontiola, Palmer, Porter, etc already in the system I am quite happy with the prospects (about as happy as you can be while keeping in mind that maybe three or four of these kids will have any impact at all). Couple the prospects on the way with Havlat, Ruutu, Barker, Seabrook, Keith, Wisniewski and Byfuglien and you may have something, maybe.
The Hawks depth will be good in the years to come, but they still need to add more explosive forward prospects. That is why I am actually enjoying the Hawks winning this lottery. I would love to see a Patrick Kane or Jakub Voracek added to the mix. Personally, I think Makarov has big time offensive talent, but he's about it in terms of game breaking skills. I think Toews, Skille and Brouwer could come close to that level in a few years. I think Kane would be perfect for this team.

It's Blunden, Roger......Blunden. You can't screw up my boys last name and get away with it. His picture and autograph are hanging on my wall for chrissakes. I saw Blunden play this year for the Hawks. Not bad...not bad at all. I think he could have a future.

How the hell did I miss that one? Wow...that's just awful. One of my favorite of Hawk prospects and disrespect him like that.
I'm glad you caught that Nate. He didn't look too bad in his stint with the Hawks. I don't think he's quite ready, but I'm glad they at least gave him a look.
