I was just talking to another GM about how great the league is and IMO I don't think you will find a better on on the net. However I think we can do better as an NsHL community to bring the league to life a bit more. It would be nice to see more in character posts to help bring the league to life a bit more. I think Roger is on to something with the rumor page, but we need to do more as an league to encourage activity.
What about a weekly meeting in the chat room to keep things fresh?
Do any of you great GMs have any other ideas?
let's talk about how we can make 2006 even better!!!!

Rob, I don't agree with you much, especially when you're throwing around the Stalin comments, lol, but I agree with you here. This is a great laegue, and plenty of fun. But I too, have noticed there's a lot of "dead" time, especially in the summer. Now I know people have lives outside of the NsHL, but I agree, there should be more happening to make this real.
As good as Roger's ESN is, I'd like to see an independant party, to stir it up a little, like an investigative reporter, who's job it is to create some rumors or to make up some stories that forces GM's to react. But the person shouldn't be affiliated with any of the teams. I think this would be a great way to bring in a new person, who's resume is on file with Nate, to take baby steps in getting involved in the league. I know in my business, this happens all the time where GM's, Coaches, and players have to deal with this almost on a weekly basis.
Also, what about the idea of paying teams for the amount they post. Say $1000 a story, to force GM's to write more or post more. But the stories have to be legit. Not reading that Dave B. touched a hooker's breast while in a drunken stouper on the weekend. Just an idea. I know some of us post more than others, but in order to get more dialog, maybe we have to provide more incentive.

One thing I forgot to mention in my previous post. I think we should try to come up with something that does not increase the workload of the Commish or the NsHLPA.
IMO "We the GMs need to pick it up a bit more"

If I were to grant Dave Bonkosky his $1,000 per legit post, he'd get......
well....$1,000.
Listen, I'm not going to give incentives or force people to post on the message board. It would create a ton more work for me and an accounting nightmare. The message board is to communicate and it shouldn't be 'work' to anyone. In other words, I'm not going to force anyone to use the message board, however, I feel strongly that the message board should be used to the advantage of any active GM. It can be a catalyst to gain leverage when dealing with negotiations and can be a powerful tool to create trade winds.
Unfortunately, the NsHL has 'some' dead time during the summer. However, it's a busy time for GMs internally preparing for the draft and signing their players to contract extensions. It also allows a much needed rest to the Commissioner's Office who works in excess of 15-30 hours a week during the season.
What you guys choose to do with this time is really up to you. If you guys want more 'action' in the off-season, lets figure out what we can do to keep it going during the summer. The draft is the Mecca of the NsHL, IMO and breaks up the 'dead times' with a very exciting two day extravaganza. After the draft, free agency kicks into high gear with tons of signings and trades. By that time, pre-season will have started and we're bearing down on our 4th NsHL season.
Between May and July, the action can slow down a bit, there is no question. That's why I encourage everyone to sign their players, trade for need, and prepare for the draft.
If I were you, I'd work on your team's website so you can get that extra $500,000. That adds to the league, no doubt.
Another suggestion is to get on board with Roger Gorbet at ESN. He's looking for beat writers to enhance is website. There is much activity that each and every one of you can do to make that website and the NsHL a better place.
Nathan Kopsack NsHL Commissioner
I really do appreciate your enthusiasim about wanting more. It's refreshing to see that you guys can't get enough of the NsHL. The BOD is committed to making sure that the NsHL experience is the best on the net.
