Raycroft will win it. I don't even think Malone is a choice. It's between Raycroft and Ryder..Only Habs fans are the ones that think Ryder will win. And if Boston was so consistant why have their goalies been changed year after year?

I agree with ADriano, I don't even think Malone will get consideration...not that he shouldn't, but he won't... I also think there are alot of Pittsburgh fans in this league, nudge nudge...

A rookie that pots 22 goals and has over 40 points should NOT be overlooked and I don't think he will.
For chrissakes, he had more points then Rick Nash in his first season. I'm not comparing them side by side, but statistically. Malone is the real deal.
What most of you don't realize is that most of Ryan's goals this season were NOT junk rebound goals but were highlight reel goals.(I was able to watch this kid all year long) This kid can score. I wouldn't count him out.

Wow, I just looked at Michael Ryder's numbers for this season. I've changed my vote. He should win it. What a spectacular year this youngster has had. I knew he was having a decent season around the mid way point this year, but hadn't rechecked his status. Wow.
TSN reported:
Flaws: Doesn't have top-shelf scoring prowess, which will ultimately limit him to a checking role in the NHL.
I'm not sure if 60 points AND he's potted 25 goals this season is going to cut it as a checking line role. ;D
Ryder wins Calder.

No way Ryder will win it. Raycroft all the way.
Lets go back to 1991. Eddie Belfour wins the Calder. Runner-up - Sergei Fedorov.
Fedorov's Stats: 31 goals, 48 assists, for a total of 79 points. He finished the year at a +11. Fedorov was 22.
Belfour finsihed the year with a 2.47 GAA and a .910 save % after 74 games. He finsihed the year with 43 wins, 4 shutouts and 4,126 minutes. Belfour was 26.
Now flash to 2004. Michael Ryder has 78 points (24 goals and 36 assists). His +/- stands at an 8. Ryder is 24.
Andrew Raycroft is also 24. His goals against is sensational at a 2.00 and a save % at .929. (And his pads, gloves and chest protector are nothing like Giguere's) He has three shutouts on the year and has logged 3235 minutes, and 28 wins in 54 games. Most of the games he has played in he has allowed 2 or less goals.
Raycroft has stayed poised and has no doubt brought Boston to where they are. Past goalies in Boston have failed. Dafoe's 5 years in Boston weren't THAT BAD. Neither was Grahame's, Shields or even Hackett's. All four goalies played for Boston last season and a combined GAA of 2.75. Well, Boston is lucky they have St. Andrew.
On a side note. Patrice Bergeton would have won the Calder if he didn't go down with injury. He's poised let a vetern and pound for pound he is one of the best "little" hitters. Not to mention he has 37 points in 67 games and is the youngest player in the NHL. (He went after Chara a few times. LOL. There about 9 inches apart and 82 pounds between them.)

Ryder , look at the scoring chart ... Big name player produced less than Ryder (78gp 24g 36a 60pts) .. i mean people like Glen Murray , Pavol Demitra , Miroslav Satan and Ryan Smyth .
With the low scoring NHL is much more easier for goalie to put up impressives numbers . Raycroft is amazing and he's a rock BUT imo the offensive should get noticed more in a defensive erea .
"""
My pick for the ''All around'' prospect is Tuomo Ruutu . He played great in the second half and bring a new dimension of physical play . This guy will be a big part of Hawks future .
---Btw the only reason why Malone leads this poll is because many of u guy's are from Pitsburgh ... HOMERS !!

I am a die hard Habs fan and my vote is for Ryan Malone... i saw a couple of Pens game on the dish and he played great and all the goals i saw him do were great ones. He has 3 shorthand goals... and a shot percentage of 16.4% The guy is 6"4 and weights in at 216... he has so much untapped potential. Sure Ryder is having a great season but i think without a quality center like Koivu or Ribeiro he would do far less. Speaking of Ribeiro... too bad he is not considered a rookie anymore because that kid can play and dish passes with the best of them!

no no Andrino Ryder is the best rookie in the league look at his stats. Raycroft will get knocked off 1st or 2nd round it his first year in the playoffs he dpesn't know the intensity. No way Ryder will win it. Raycroft all the way. Lets go back to 1991. Eddie Belfour wins the Calder. Runner-up - Sergei Fedorov. Fedorov's Stats: 31 goals, 48 assists, for a total of 79 points. If Raycroft drops a few games I'm sure Sullivan won't hesitate to put Potvin between the pipes.

I said it before, and I'll say it again. Andrew Raycroft will be the rookie of the year. As for Adriano saying:
No way, Raycroft won't go downhill to begin with, and even he does that is unfair for him to carry a team all year and just drop him like that, he will finish the season as the Bruins starter.

Your team is down 3-0 in the series. And your Rookie goalie has been playing bad, for one game you won go with a goalie who has played well in the playoffs? The fans in Boston will NOT stand for yet another first round exit.
