Nice move Marty McSorley. Sometimes anger gets the best of players.

What a p*ssy!! If you're going to fight someone, fight like a man. It was very cheap and cowardly. He should be out for all of this year and next.

Well, Bettman holds the cards as to whether or not the suspension will go into next season. They say that a suspension could be prolonged in correlation with how Moore's health progresses. Steve is supposed to make a full recovery so I would gamble that the suspension will only be for this season (playoffs included).
How about the bitch crying when he was apologizing. He knew d**n well what he was doing when he did it, it is a little late for apologies. Take the punishment, deal with it, and move on. No use in crying about it....it's not going to get the league to go easy on him.
Gee Mike, I wouldn't want a player like Bertuzzi representing my franchise....he makes you look bad.
By the way, what do you want for him? ;D

I feel the suspension was fair. The entire 2004 regular season and playoffs. It was uncalled for, and we all knew it would happen after Moore leveled Naslund.
This is what sometimes turns fans off from the game of hockey.

holy crap Todd just because Markus Naslund didn't keep his head up and got a nice clean hit doesn't mean you go and start playing with the moores life by falling on him.

Vancouver, i think the punishment fit the crime! i dont no what he was thinking, he hurt moore and his family, also his teamates who are trying to win a cup. it is just a very bad situation all around, and if moore never plays again, todd should not either!

Hey! Poor Steve Moore was hurt for many months in the NsHL too! And then the Avs go out and get Gratton in real life shortly after I got him? Strange how the NsHL and NHL are so similar! Nate do you know something that we all don't?
Seriously, It is a shame that this happened and gives hockey another black eye in the mainstream public. More importantly is the health of Steve Moore and I only hope and pray that he indeed has a full recovery.
As for Bertuzzi I personally feel that he should be suspended for the entire 2004-2005 season as well. This leads us to the question that all of us NsHLers want to know?
Commissioner Kopsack if you were the NHL commissioner how would you handle this matter?

Well I don't know about Nate, but if I was Commish for a day I'd suspend Betuzzi for as long as Moore is out, including if he never plays again. Then I'd make Vancouver trade Markus Naslund to the Redwings for more punishment ;D.

I think Bettman ought to use this as a springboard, personally. The NHL has a black eye.....but a wise man once told me there is no such thing as bad press. I think the league needs to embrace the fair side of fighting, the traditions, and the rich heritage of the game.
The fact that the ice hockey and the NHL is one of the most brutal games should be a turn on to people who would normally not watch games. It works for football. Who can argue that the action in a hockey game, the beauty of a goal is not one of the most graceful ways to score points in all of professional sports. Soccer is the world's largest sport BY FAR and scoring is not as common as an ice hockey game. They've figured it out, American football has figured it out, how is it that the NHL is asleep at the wheel?
We should have a niche cornered.......if millions and millions of people across this country-US (I know they love hockey in Canada) are willing to watch a bunch of billboards turn circles for three hours(NASCAR), certainly they would be willing to watch a game where the action is constant, the goals are spectacular, and the players show raw emotion.
The NHL is horrendous at promoting itself and it is known for it. Hell, while the NBA was on strike and the NHL was the ONLY GAME IN TOWN, they failed to increase ratings.......how the hell does that happen?
My suggestion is that they quit figuring out how to punish one of the game's best...the damage has been done....and concentrate on a way to turn this negative into a positive before things REALLY get ugly.
Remember, after the NHL loses it's $270 millionth dollar this season, it doesn't look to get any better. With a hint of a lockout, players whacking each other, and the overall condition of the league to be viewed as a "loser", it is going to make things difficult.
Use what you got now, Bettman....and see if you can right the ship.

That's a tough call, Rob. (I didn't see your post until now.) We have had some long term injuries in the NsHL. Fortunately, none of them have come at the hands of someone else. (If so, I do not know about it). I typically have a MAX 5 (game) rule in place unless the player(victim) involved is out indefinitley with a career threatening injury (ie. concussion, broken neck, broken elbow, or leg). Then, we will look at the players track record and circumstances. It is entirely possibly in the NsHL to lose a player for a whole season. I mean, it happens in the NHL,doesn't it? If this exact same incident were to happen in the NsHL, I couldn't tell you what would happen. Because of what happened in the NHL, I can assure you that I will use this last case as a model for future incidents. (Because we don't have video replay or actually testimony, our consequences for incidents in the NsHL will generally be 'lighter' than the NHL)
While we are on this note. Each one of you look at your boxscores every time you play, I assume. If you see questionable calls or injuries due to blatant hits from the other team, please email the commissioner's office immediately. I do try to pay attention to every game but I am a busy man. A lot of you have come to me with petitiions so keep it up. For those of you that haven't, utilize me if you see something you think is unfair in regards to a player injury or penalty.
Thanks,
Nathan Kopsack NsHL Commissioner LA Kings
