Sources say the Colorado Avalanche are on the verge of another seismic move.
The Avalanche, in their aggressive pursuit of a championship, have agreed to another trade in principle, which sources say set up the team well for the present and future. The deal is awaiting the acquiring player's waiving of a no trade clause to join the Avalanche.
Colorado sits atop the Central Division standings and is second in the Western Conference seeding, 6 points back of the Anaheim Ducks. Sources would divulge the player that is contemplating waiving for Colorado is currently playing for a team beneath the playoff bubble.
"We feel confident this organization is a desired destination for players," Avs GM Patrick King said. "In the past two years, two players have waived their clauses to join our team in Boone Jenner and Phil Kessel. Aside from last year's blip, this is not only a steady playoff team but an annual championship contender. We've won 2 Stanley Cups, been to 4 Cup finals and won multiple division banners. And when you look at the roster, we are well set up for now and the future. Bringing in Matthew Tkachuk and Patrik Laine in recent trades shows we are serious about continuing our role as annual contenders. Should this player join our team, he will be a massive part of the present and future success of this franchise."
