The Arizona Coyotes GM apparently figured out where his computer was and figured out how to make a trade for his NsHL Squad.
"Our goal was sit this year and see where our squad was going to lead us. Having Thompson hurt for a month earlier in the year appeared to set the tone, but we got through that and still find ourselves within reach of the playoffs." said GM Raines.
"We didn't want to make any large moves without thinking of the long term ramifications. Getting a long term goalie that was either signed, or one that we could sign was a pretty big need for us and getting Elvis was certainly someone we had on our radar."
Arizona traded Phoenix Copley, Prospect Fyodor Svechkov, Montreal 2nd in 2024 and Sonny Milano for Elvis Merzlikins, Gustav Nyquist, Prospect Caedan Bankier and Vancouver 5th in 2024.
"It was a quick deal with Dan over in Pittsburgh. He's a classy guy and it was discussed with Elvis' Agent that he would get no worse than 50/50 splits in goal to finish out the year."
Arizona's place in the standings is nothing short of a miracle at this point.
"We went into the year thinking we were a bottom 6 team. But these little digital people with the big hearts proved me wrong. We are 2-0 since this trade and sit just 2 points out of the 7th - 9th seed in the West. We have our own internal deadline and where we need to be in the standings before we decide to sell some vets or ride it out for the year. We probably won't be buyers as we do not want to jeopardize our future for Rentals at this point."
Things are getting exciting in the desert and the hope it to take a big step forward next year.
