After a season and a half of mediocrity, the Vegas Golden Knights reshaped the roster in a big way with a pair of blockbuster deals late last night.
A number of original Golden Knights from the expansion draft and first season are packing their bags. Here's a look at the deals:
To VGK: Dominik Kubalik Yakov Trenin Vladislav Gavrikov Erik Johnson Michael Benning (prospect) NYI 1 2025 NYI 3 2026
To NYI: Nino Niederreiter Chris Tierney Neal Pionk Luke Schenn
To CLB: Zach Aston-Reese, VGK 4 2025
To VGK: Jesse Puljujarvi
The massive deals come as the Golden Knights sit just one point out of a playoff spot. "We know we're in the playoff hunt, but we didn't feel this was a team that could compete as constructed. We had a lot of patience, but ultimately it was time to shake things up," said the Vegas GM.
On paper, Vegas is still a very competitive team and very much in the playoff race, but also added draft picks and a defensive prospect.
"With trades of this magnitude, it impacts all four lines," said head coach Peter Laviolette," The new guys will be meeting us in Minnesota before our game tomorrow and we'll work them into the lineup."
