Montreal, PQ - AP
The Montreal Canadiens are at the 10 game mark with a 3-5-2 record sitting in 13th place 4 points out of a playoff spot. We have the Coach Mike Yeo to answer questions.
Marinaro : Coach, the record is about what most expected of the team. Is there any where you see you can improve and move up.
Yeo : We look at every game as a opportunity to win and learn. Even though our record is below .500 we see there is lots of room for improvement. And thats a good thing. If we had this record and say we are playing our best, it would not be good.
Engel : Who do you think can improve at this time ? Where are improvements needed ?
Yeo : I'm not going to point fingers. We have internal discussions with players. We give positive feedback on what we see players doing right and ask them to repeat those actions for the best success. We as a team address the flaws and work on those. Our PP and PK are little lagging and need improvement. When they improve our record will as well.
Marinaro : Currently, you have defenseman Samuel Bolduc leading the team in points with 10 assists. Does that concern you ?
Yeo : Its a great thing ! He is showing his skill and playing well in his own end and getting results. We like his chair. The time on ice etc. We don't expect him to lead the team in points but if he does. Then thats great. A point a game guy.
Marinaro : Sergachev and Seider are -6 and -5. You split them up last game and won. Do they not play well together ?
Yeo : We have 2 top Defenseman in this league. They both log heavy minutes in heavy situations. When you have 2 comparable D who want the puck. Sometimes it doesnt click. So, we split them up and see a benefit to having that caliber of D on the top 2 pairing. They still are together on PP and PK. Which we might look at a split there too.
Basu : Scoring seems to be a issue with this team. You have Lukas Vejdemo who has scored 9 goals in 10 games in Laval. Any thoughts of bringing him up to help scoring ?
Yeo : Lukas is doing very well. He's a 27 year old veteran who would deserve a look for sure. Our focus right now is to get some of our guys here going.
Marinaro : You have Tippett, Hoffman, Rask who have 1 goal or less so far, how do you get them going ?
Yeo : We look at the best situations for them to succeed and give them expectations of their play. Obviously if you ask them they would say they have not scored enough. But I am confident they will. What we want from all players is their best effort and consistency. Thanks guys.
A 4-2 win over Columbus last night salvaged what could have been a horrible start. The team sitting where they are can go either way. Scoring is a issue as has been over the last few season's. Some players need to step up. Special teams need to step up.
Hero's : Bedard, McDavid, Crosby, Trump, Poiliviere
Zero's : Mahommes, Zalensky, Trudeau, Newsom, Biden , Biden, Biden, Harris.
