The Ottawa Senators went into the offseason with a glaring need on their second line. It was rumored that the role would be filled from within with forwards shuffling around to make the line up work. GM Nate Hickerson had other plans.
"We are very excited to announce the signing of Evander Kane. Evander will play a top 6 role with us for the foreseeable future as he as agreed to a 5 year contract with us. I will not discuss financial details of this but you all know where you can find them." Hickerson said.
Evander Kane was a Senator once before, "His time with us years ago was fantastic, this is why we were very excited to offer him a contract again." Hickerson said. "Our team was in the bottom tier for hits per game last year and for some stretches we got bullied around the ice, Evander will help keep opposing teams honest with his physical prowess."
The Senators did not stop there as they announced the signing of another two way forward, Conor Sheary. "Today Conor Sheary and his agent informed us that they have accepted our contract offer and are flying to Ottawa tomorrow." Hickerson said. "We needed another forward who plays well at both ends of the ice. Conor brings in experience, defensive ability and offensive abilities. We expect Conor to split time between our second and third lines as well as lead our penalty kill and even play the power play for us."
Hickerson was asked if this was it for the Senators, "We are always looking at every single player that is available and we have internal discussions to make the best possible team." Hickerson said.
