I know I'm about a month premature but it looks as though my unlikely streak is finally coming to an end so I figured I'd put my guys out there for playoff bound teams looking for a boost.
Riley Nash: 32, UFA, $2,500,000
Riley is a faceoff specialist who could bolster a 3rd or 4th line and play on the PK to give your skilled guys a rest. His 80FO and 75DF combined with the leadership he would provide could prove beneficial to a younger team looking to make a splash in the playoffs.
Derrick Brassard: 34, UFA, $4,750,000
Derrick is obviously an expensive option but there are many creative ways of getting around that for a team that would be interested in adding him. He still plays the game at a very high level and could easily slot into a middle six role with his 77PA, 75SC and 76PH. He also still has legs (78SK) so you would not be stuck with the stereotypical lethargic old guy. Obviously, he is also a locker room presence and would provide valuable leadership and experience.
Paul Byron: 32, 1 more year at $3,000,000
Byron does it all. He is still lightning fast (80SK), a defensive genius (78DF) and can play all 3 positions. This is the guy you look for when the injury bug hits in the playoffs. he is capable of playing anywhere in the lineup and is an effective player in all situations.
Kris Russel: 34, UFA, $3,250,000
Even at his age and salary, Kris is likely the most tantalizing option on this list for a playoff team. He has quietly put up 17 points on a team that has struggled and has moved towards a full rebuild. He has been a workhorse for us playing just under 20 minutes a game in almost every situation and, yet, still leads the team with a +10 rating. He is an "every situation" guy but would be more than effective in a more defensive role on a team with more offensively gifted guys.
Would also be willing to move Dominik Simon, Jon Gillies and Matthieu Perreault.
Looking for picks in this years draft or prospects.
