I know that my suggestions have not been welcomed in the past, but something has to give and I believe the following suggestions are fair and help with transparency. It is no secret that the league has had issues with getting GM's involved the last few seasons.
I have a proposal that will save some time for all GM's especially agents. It will also help make a level playing field for all making the signing of a player's first contract transparent.
1. ENTRY LEVEL CONTRACTS (ELC's): All ELC's are for a duration of three (3) seasons if prospect is signed within FOUR SEASONS of his being selected in the NsHL Entry Draft. If a GM chooses to wait an extra season, then the contract duration would AUTOMATICALLY lower to two (2) seasons. Salary is based upon their selection in the Entry Draft as listed below. There are no Signing Bonuses.
1st Round (1-5) - $1,000,000 1st Round (6-10) - $950,000 1st Round (11-32) - $900,000 2nd Round (33-48) - $850,000 2nd Round (49-64) - $800,000 3rd Round (65-78) - $750,000 3rd Round (79-96) - $700,000 4th Round (97-112) - $650,000 4th Round (113-128) - $600,000 5th Round (129-160) - $500,000 6th Round (161-192) - $400,000 7th Round (193-224) - $360,000
2. PROSPECTS ELIGIBILITY: When a player is drafted by a NsHL club, that player is placed on that club's Prospects List. Players may remain on this list for up to five (5) years before they must be signed to an Entry Level Contract or be automatically released.

Completely agree.
Negotiating elc's is an unnecessary step which is adding work to the agents already overloaded off-season.
Aside from leveling the playing field, this also just straight up makes things run smoother for everyone.

Five years seems reasonable on North American prospects. Some Europeans take forever to come over. I'd like to add a year or two to the European contingent.

Wouldn't disagree with five years either .. just figured the four years matches up with the NHL (for the most part). As for the Euro's .. that would be an interesting discussion on whether you extend protecting them?

I don’t think ELC’s add much work to the NsHLPA. I believe we need to stay where we are at with ELC’s. It’s a proven process that has worked and is working. I don’t like putting a time limit on prospects. I prefer the age out rule that we currently have in place. I agree with Kinger that euro’s take longer and also some goalies do as well. My 2 bits.

I believe this would add transparency to the process. It would also provide less chance of sweetheart deals. The process is extremely flawed right now with sweetheart deals. It wouldn’t fix the entire imbalance of the system, but at least we all would know that a first round pick will cost us this amount and can plan for it.
As far as the aging out process, a healthy league would seek input and if the current system is what is viewed as the most favourable then great.
TBH, I’m much more concerned about the current system of ELC’s being charged vastly different rates, signing bonuses etc. The league needs to be more transparent and inclusive or it will continue on its current trajectory of slowly withering away.

Agents negotiating signing bonuses on elc's is extremely unrealistic. Other than the very few Crosby's or McDavid's out there, it is extremely unlikely that a player would have the leverage or be on a position to ask for that.

Honestly, it is time for us to not only allow input and discussion in the league .. it is time to encourage it. My rule proposal wasn't meant as anything more than an idea. I'm sure there are some that are fine with the old rules and some that are invested in not changing things.

Well I’m a original owner and was very much in to the writing the constitution, Ron I myself like what you are bringing up about the ELC and I will talk to the board and see what their feelings are on this subject, I believe the last two years has been very hard on the league do to the Covid-19 virus, we haven’t been able to have our draft in person and that is when we all got together and discussed different ways we can improve the the game we all love. I believe the league is still strong, and just keep getting better, that’s my two cents

I too like your idea Ron where it comes to the signing of ELC's. But I like the aging out rule, which I think we could drop to maybe 25 for N.A. players and leave it as is for EUROS.
