Hello Fans!
It was a crazy night for the Wolfpack as they fought their way through a back and forth game to come out on top of the Cleveland Monsters by a final score of 6-4. The teams split the first period scoring 2 a side but Cleveland picked up the pace and got the only 2 of the second period, the last of which came with 6 seconds left. That goal turned out to be the end of the night for rookie Logan Thomson as he was pulled after allowing 4 goals on 18 shots. Hunter Miska started the third period and stopped all 12 shots he faced allowing Hartford to claw their way back into the game. The third period saw Hartford pot 4 consecutive goals with the last 2 coming only 8 seconds apart to nail the coffin shut on Cleveland.
Unfortunately, Miska’s stellar 3rd period performance was eclipsed by newcomers Ryan Reaves and Tim Gettinger who scored 2 goals a piece in their Wolfpack debuts. Reaves, who got the eventual game winner, played a whopping 21:39 adding 2 hits in the contest and managed to stay out of the penalty box to boot. Gettinger played 18:08 in the contest scoring twice on 4 shots and, somehow, finished without a single hit.
It was undoubtedly a strange night all around. The guys brought in to clear space ended up stealing the show and it appears as though the Wolfpack have tapped into something that could solve their early season woes. Of course, only time will tell if this strategy is sustainable for the long haul but if they can get production up and down the lineup like this on a consistent basis, I think it’s more than reasonable to assume Hartford could punch a playoff ticket for the first time in GM Coopers tenure.
