Raleigh, NC – The Canes have apparently made a trade to bolster their minor league club, while also creating room for next years' club to add more youth to the backend.
To CAR: Josh Jooris & Thomas Hickey
To SJ: Ben Thomas, Reece Willcox & MIN 7 2020
This isn't an earth shattering trade, but if the Panthers want to go on another long run in the AsHL playoffs they needed and wanted to add a bit more depth. Ben Thomas had been a mainstay on the blueline, but in recent weeks had seen his spot get taken by Dennis Gilbert. It will be interesting to see which blueliner is the odd man out for Hickey to get into the lineup.
As for Josh Jooris, he gives the coach some flexibility as he can play any forward position.
“After trading Riley we felt that we were a bit thin at forward with only rookie Brandon Gignac as an option if the team got into injury trouble. We didn't think that was a good idea going down the stretch and in to the playoffs. As for Hickey, he's a solid veteran blueliner that will give Coach Desjardins some options. I wouldn't be surprised to see him playing in the top four,” stated GM Ron Jones.
The Panthers next game is against the high-flying Louisville Thunder on Monday.
