Raleigh, NC - The Carolina Panthers defeated the Toronto Marlies 4-1 today to take the series four to one. It was an important win for the franchise and it was their first Calder Cup since 2013.
This takes some of the sting away from the big club missing the playoffs this season. It also bodes well for some of the younger players working their way through the system. Players like Colin White (8-17-25) and Phil Di Giuseppe (9-11-20) finished 1-2 in the AsHL scoring race in the playoffs.
"We made a decision this year to rebuild on the fly and that meant moving out some great players from our big club. The cupboards are stocked with terrific prospects in our organization. The Carolina Panthers gathered much needed playoff experience and we believe that a number of those players will be able to use that going forward. We needed both goalies to win the Calder Cup and with Carter Hart ready to join the organization .. we are set in goal for many years. Some of our guys will be moving on, but they will always be a part of our family," said GM Ron Jones.
