Rockford is ready for the playoffs. The hairy ending put the possibility of not making it, and put a bad feeling in the guts of the players. This was something that new coach Scott Gordon had to deal with. The whole season was a positive one for the IceHogs. Defense was strong and the start of the season was superb. A long rough stretch put the team down in the underbelly of the playoff line and things looked glim. IceHogs decided to trade some higher end players for picks. This proved a positive for the team and allowed the team to go on a long run.
Last season Rockford IceHogs finished with 77 pts and a record of 33-38-11. The team decided to change up and activate prospects to fill in the holes. Also, a new coach was brought in. This created a major/instant impact and this seaon Rockford ended the season 8th seed and in the playoffs.
"We are extremely pleased for the Farm Club! The pro team was terrible in the end and lost their mojo in the end and missed out on the playoffs by 3 points. This is a strong positive for the organization. Our team is the 3rd or 4th youngest in the AsHL and we made the playoffs. Our lads will get nothing but better. This is a great day and cannot wait to watch them in the post season!," commented OWNER/GM Brian Decker.
The first game will take place on Day 2 of the AsHL Playoffs. And if history repeats itself, the last time Rockford was in the league (under Manitoba Moose) they took care of AsHL Champions Oakland Seals. The team will look to shut down the best in the AsHL, Texas Stars. Stay tuned and watch. This hopes to be a great series!
Lets fo IceHogs!
