The Arizona Coyotes cling for dear life to their playoff hopes. "Right now there are 5 Teams all gunning for 2 playoff spots. Vancouver, Dallas, Arizona, Chicago and San Jose are all separated by 4 Points with 2 games left for each. If you asked us if we would be fighting for a playoff spot this late in the season I would have laughed in your face. Hell even 3 weeks ago, we were flirting with 13th place in the conference but ended up with a nice little win streak where we went 8-0-2 and brought us right back in the thick of things."
Arizona currently sits at 9th with 84 Points. "We've been riding Mrazek pretty hard because he's been winning. He put this team on his back and got us some great wins. Even his last outing against Toronto, he put up 55 Saves in a losing effort but still walked away with the first star giving up 4 goals." Arizona can only reach as high as 7th in the standings but that will be a tall order. "Two of the teams we are trying to catch, actually play each other the last game of the season for each of them in Dallas and Vancouver. I am just praying that it isn't a 3 point game."
There is a path to the playoffs for Arizona but it most likely requires Dallas to lose out in regulation both games and it requires Arizona to win one or both of their last games in regulation. Arizona plays Philadelphia and Boston in their final two games of the season. "Jack always has our number and his team is just solid from top to bottom."
If by some miracle, Arizona will match up with one of Colorado, Anaheim or Edmonton. "The new term for this type of matchup is Waste of 8 Days. But we will gladly take the revenue and move into the offseason hoping to build on what we have already accomplished this year. We fought some adversity and found some real chemistry with our team and look forward to what the future holds for us."
Arizona looks to rejoin the playoffs after a few years hiatus, including finishing dead last the previous two years.
"We looked at our drafting over the past decade plus, and realized that we have made some good draft picks and some bad draft picks. This team will be activating some real high draft picks in the coming years and this team should be poised for a deep playoff run soon. We've found success with our current roster without needing Shane Wright, Adam Fantilli, Matthew Coronato. When those players join the ranks in a few years, watch out."
