Those closest to the Colorado Avalanche confirmed the team has aggressively pursued free agent forwards in this flight and are closing in on a deal with a veteran. The Avalanche have an opening that could be filled anywhere amongst the 12 forwards and that fluidity is a part of the process due to the ability to play young forwards in bigger roles.
Colorado was indeed interested in Andrei Kuzmenko, but the Russian winger was - similarly to other big name undrafted free agents - not interested enough in playing with first ballot Hall of Famers Sidney Crosby and Gabriel Landeskog.
"They've pitched playing with Sidney Crosby to several free agents over the years and not one has been enticed enough to go there," the source said. "Management is clearly miffed because there's not a player in that building that wouldn't want to play with Sid."
The Avalanche pivoted and consideration internally has been discussed about Joe Pavelski, Zach Parise among others. This source says one of those targets is close to signing in Colorado but time will tell who, if any, join the Avalanche.
