The Vegas Golden Knights parted ways with head coach Mike Yeo after 2 seasons, and also did not renew a contract for Atlantic City Blackjack coach John Hynes. Vegas missed the playoffs despite having a veteran roster, so the writing was on the wall that Yeo would not be offered an extension. It was believed Hynes was being groomed as the replacement upon his hire, but Vegas decided to go in a completely different direction.
The team announced today that Peter Laviolette has signed a 3 year deal with the Golden Knights to become the third coach in team history.
"Peter has a long history of taking veteran teams to the next level," said the Vegas general manager, "He knows this team has a lot of talent and will implement a new system to help us succeed."
In Atlantic City, the team signed Dominique Ducharme to a 2 year deal. The Blackjacks have traditionally also had a veteran team following the expansion draft, but are now seeing some of their draft picks making the AsHL. Alex Turcotte and Aliaksi Protas top the list of players to look out for this season.
The Blackjacks have big question marks in net following the departure of Anthony Stolarz, Josef Korenar, and Alex Lyon and will look to build goaltending depth through free agency and via trade.
