Seattle, WA - It was an improved segment for the Kraken now that the trade deadline has passed. The biggest news of the segment was the extension of veteran forward Frank Vatrano. The club had a 1-0 squeaker win, blew out Pittsburgh 7-1, and managed to lose to the Oilers by a respectable 3-2 score.
THE GOOD:
Adin Hill was strong, going 2-3-1 with a 2.82 average and .918 save percentage. Nazem Kadri had 6 goals and 6 assists in 8 games with an impressive 55.6% faceoff rate. Justin Holl put up 6 assists, with 4 of them coming in one night against the Penguins. Alex Barre-Boulet picked up a goal and assist in his first 5 games of the year. The powerplay was 7 for 31 for a 22.6% effectiveness. Ryan Donato, who has struggled all year in the faceoff circle, won 58.6% of the 29 faceoffs he took.
THE BAD:
Tyler Johnson was struggling in the faceoff circle (44.3%) before getting injured. Ryan Donato slumped to just one assist over this 8 game stretch.
THE UGLY:
Alexander Barabanov slumped with no points and a -4 The penalty kill managed to stop just 73.1 of the man advantages against.
With eight games left, the Kraken sit in 30th overall, putting them in a good position for the draft. They had slipped to 31st, but with some stronger play have moved up a slot. Good for the players' psyche, but too many wins might not be what management is hoping for.
