Seattle, WA - If this segment wasn't 9 games long, there wouldn't have been a win to report on. Even though Seattle only moved Kyle Clifford from the AsHL roster at the deadline, the club just continues to sink in the standings. It has been a bleak stretch with very few bright spots.
THE GOOD:
Adin Hill had a solid 2.63 average and .913 save percentage in spite of losing a 4 decisions. Kevin Lankinen posted a .902 save percentage and a 3.35 average with a 1-2-2 record, including a 51 save night against the Bruins. Nazem Kadri has 2 goals and 7 assists for 9 points in 9 games Spending most of the time flanking Kadri, Frank Vatrano had 7 points, and Anthony Mantha had 8. Kadri, Johnson, and Richardson continued to be over 50% in the faceoff circle over these 9 games. The Penalty Kill had a good stretch, operating at an 85.2% efficiency.
THE BAD:
Newcomer Ryan Carpenter and Sammy Blais were the only players to post a positive plus-minus at +1 each. A complete lack of secondary scoring - Nikita Gusev had no points, and eight other players had just 1 point. Carpenter was brought in to help out in the faceoff circle, but won just 43% of his draws.
THE UGLY:
In their game against the Bruins, Boston got 121 shot attempts to Seattle's 44! 1 win in 9 games, and a total of 4 points in the standings. The Powerplay was an anemic 1 for 20 for 5% efficiency. Justin Schultz was -7 and Tyler Johnson went -6 Tyler Johnson hit a nasty slump with just 1 goal in 39 shots (2.6%).
According to management, if the team had intended on tanking, a few key players would have been dealt at the deadline, because the offers were rolling in. We can't imagine what intentional tanking would look like!
