Gents,
With the NHL expanding to Seattle, the NsHL will be doing so as well. The rules for this expansion are as follows:
1) The Seattle Kraken will be placed in the Pacific Division, and starting play in the 2022-2023 NsHL season. The Arizona Coyotes will be moving from the Pacific Division to the Central Division.
2) Expansion draft protection lists are due to the commissioner no later than Sunday, July 10th.
All teams must protect 1 goalie, 4 defensemen, and 6 forwards. Teams will not be allowed to protect pending UFAs who are unsigned or pending RFAs not tendered qualifying offers.
Teams will NOT be required to protect players with NTCs.
Players age 24 and under, at the time of the draft, will be exempt. This means players age 23 and under during the 2021-2022 NsHL season.
3) Expansion draft results will be announced Saturday, July 16th. Seattle will select ONE player from each team (30 players), aside from Vegas. They must draft a minimum of 3 goalies, 9 defensemen, and 14 forwards. They must draft a minimum of 20 players under contract for the 2022-2023 NsHL season.
Seattle will have until July 31st to negotiate with any free agents selected in the expansion draft.
4) Seattle will be given the 3rd selection in each round of the 2022 NsHL Entry Draft.
