Thankfully it wasn't the Penguins So St. Louis gets the first pick. Since I know we have an unhealthy amount of Pen fans in this league, are you happy staying at #2 or would you throw an offer at St. Louis for the top pick? It really does suck having to pick between Johnson and Kessel though doesn't it??? As for the Hawks, I'm hoping they stay where they are and pick Toews. In case you were wondering, I do expect a Johnson, Kessel, Toews 1-3 picks. And yes, I'm still a little more than pissed that the Caps won the lottery to get Ovechkin, so to hell with them. Anyway, enough venting from me. I was just curious to see the thoughts of Pens fans here. Content to stay at 2, or try and move up (or down if you want to get really creative) Whatever happens, if they can manage to get Malkin over they are gonna be a scary bunch. Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, Whitney, Welch, Armstrong, Hilbert (yuck), Ouellet...THAT'S ENOUGH!!! Ok. I'm done now.

Apprently it didn't suck for ISS to pick between Johnson and Kessel, since three players slid inbetween the two of them (and we're only talking North Americans...lol). Maybe Kessel and Joensuu will both fallto the second round (just kidding about the second round)

Not that I really care (I don't get to pick one of em, heh) but I'm curious as to how and why it is that Kessel has managed to find his stock dipping. As someone who got to watch a lot of both Kessel and Toews this season, it doesn't have anything to do with on ice skills. I can't say much about Staal as I haven't seen much of him yet. But between Kessel and Toews, on the ice, I don't see how Toews is better than Kessel. Although I could understand the arguement that Toews might be the better pick if you want a future center (and perhaps captain). I think Kessel would be phenominal playing wing in the NHL. I guess I'm in a very small group now that still thinks Kessel is the BPA in the draft, and I love Johnson and Toews. That's just my opinion though.
So, is it because of his "attitude"? Do we have to keep knocking kids like Spezza, Schremp, O'Sullivan, etc for having "attitude" problems??? Is it becuase his my mom is a bit of a psycho? Is it because he is a painfully shy child? Although I'm not around him ever. I don't know him personally. I just don't understand why people go out of their way to try and discredit kids. But if that's what you want to do, ok.
As with the draft, anyone of us could be (and probably will be) VERY wrong about some kids. If you believe that Kessel is under Johnson, Staal, Toews, Backstrom, Brassard, whoever else, that's cool. I'm just wondering why? Why if going into the NCAA season is Kessel ranked as the top 1 or 2 prospects in the draft, goes out and leads all freshmen in the country in scoring (and is the second leading scorer on one of the more talented teams), gets progressively better with his two-way game and the college game in general in the process, and yet he falls 2 or 3 spots? I just don't understand that at all. But that's just me.
And speaking to the Pen fans, who are you looking at in the draft? I guess I just assumed that it would be either Johnson or Kessel, but who would you want the Pens to take?

Solid, Solid take, Roger. These types of rants are why Elite Sim News has two people looking at it every day.
All jokes aside, I agree. I have no idea why people sour on Kessel.

The drop in Kessels stock (to me) has alot to do with:
1- Erik Johnson is awesome 2- Jordan Staal happens to come from a fantastic bloodline, and because of that, he may be taken earlier than he should, however he's less of a "risk" in scouts eyes, as his family history now dictates he pulls it off. 3- Toews is younger by a fair margin, and scouts seem to like his "intangibles" (debatable whether they should matter) more 4- Derrick Brassard is a speedy player who has been creeping ever so slowly up.
I expect Kessel to be the #3 pick (behind Johnson, and Staal), and right before Toews.

That's because Kessel, especially at the World Juniors, according to scouts I've talked to, is too much of an individual player. He's someone who has troubles passing and tries to do too much himself. Scouts want team players, and some feel he's not a team player.

That seems fair Greg. As a Hawk fan, I'd be thrilled to see Kessel still on the board at #3. I will again admit that all I know about Staal is what I have heard. That basically being he is a big kid and is a great defensive forward with decent offensive skills. I would love to be able to grab some video of him soon, and if my boy in Windsor hooks me up, I will have some soon. It just bothers me that every year there seems to be one kid who the masses just unload on (which is where the Spezza, Schremp, O'Sullivan, etc comment came from).
I also hate the Pens for now having a top 2 pick for 4 straight years, although I wouldn't change the system, heh. I just know what I saw with Kessel all season, and he did not disappoint. But we'll see how it plays out.

In my oppinion, everyone still regards Kessel as an offensive superstar prospect, and his upside/downside has never changed. That's my take anyways.

I'm in the process of moving to Chicago, although I'm waiting for my house to sell in Detroit. I work out of the windy city and am here about 50 percent of the month, weekends and weekdays.
